Retrospective
This was the first week I was able to finish all my homework. For some reason the homework load for next week seems light, so I’m pretty confident I’ll be able to finish it all next week as well.
Log
Drawings and Critiques
AD1
Banksia pod studies and keyword studies.
Martian dacha designs.
Since the banksia pods remind me of alien plants, I imagined adding them to the dachas would make them look like alien homes on another planet. I like the first page of designs the best. After that I was really reaching to try to think of different ways to combine the banksia pods and dachas, and the designs were less successful. I also started trying out different sketching styles, but I still like the first page in that regard too.
WB1
Environment sketches using the architecture we designed. My design was a sorcerer's retreat.
I like how these turned out. This week we’re supposed to choose one, clean it up, and do 3 different lighting scenarios with it in value.
DC1
Color master study (after Sargent).
I don’t love this and I don’t hate it. I think I spent more time mixing colors than I did actually painting. I painstakingly mixed every color by eye with the colors from my gamut mask instead of color picking. I’m much less confident now in my understanding of warm and cool colors than I thought I was last week, but we’ll be practicing that for the next 5 weeks so hopefully that hammers it home. Color seems like it should simple but it is deceptively difficult to understand.
