Term 5, Clothed Figure Drawing, Week 2

For a description of this unit see my Clothed Figure Drawing unit plan. For full context, see the description of my Art Home School Curriculum. If this post inspired you, consider leaving me a tip.

Retrospective

I wasn’t able to draw this week as much as I would have liked due to some other priorities. I will probably have minimal drawing time over the next few weeks. I might put this unit on hold and resume again when I have more free time. It depends on how much I can get done.

I like learning concepts with tonal drawings in charcoal and then trying to apply those concepts to linear drawings in a comic style. I think it’s valuable to go back and forth.

Drawings and Critiques

Monday, Sep. 20

Inert fold and folds around forms.

Clothed figure drawing.

The neck looks too thick and I don’t like the look of the huge shadow in his left arm fold.

Tuesday, Sep. 21

Clothed figure drawing.

Clothed figure lay-in.

Wednesday, Sep. 22

Warmup and finished clothed figure.

This figure wasn’t as successful as the previous two. I had trouble with the shirt and scarf. I like the dress though. That foreshortened leg gave me a tough time, but I think it looks ok. She looks very stiff instead of relaxed, almost like she’s hovering instead of sitting.

Thursday, Sep. 23

Comic warmups and clothed comic figure.

It’s challenging to make convincing folds with only 2 values.

Friday, Sep. 24

Comic warmups and clothed figure.

Saturday, Sep. 25

Quick sketches.

I only had 20 minutes available to draw today, but I was able to keep up my streak of 482 days of daily drawing.

Sunday, Sep. 26

Figure lay-in.

Clothed comic figure.

This is from a David Finch tutorial on youtube.
