Week of August 9, 2021

Retrospective

This week I focused on rendering (mostly hatching and crosshatching) and finished drawings. Comic rendering techniques seem like they should be easy to do, but it is tricky to make it look good. Many of my attempts resulted in messy lines.

Drawings and Critiques

Monday, Aug. 09

Gestures from comics.

Finished figures.

These were copied from a David Finch tutorial.

Figure layin from imagination.

I couldn’t get the right root to look right, so I left it out. This is probably one of the best drawings I’ve done purely from imagination.

Finished drawings.

Friday, Aug. 13

Hatching practice.

I’m looking forward to doing a whole unit on inking, where I will fill pages with different types of hatching. It’s relaxing and fun to experiment with different lines.

Saturday, Aug. 14

Comic gestures.

Messing around with weird proportions.

This was for a joke, but I couldn’t bring myself to finish it.

Finished drawings.

Sunday, Aug. 15

Finished drawings.

How fitting that my favorite drawings of the last month are on the last page of the unit.
