For a description of this unit see my Head Drawing II unit plan. For full context, see the description of my Art Home School Curriculum.

Retrospective

This was another slow week. I found it hard to get motivated to draw. I need to make a change since I’m stagnating, but I’m not sure yet what that change should be.

Setting up a still life for painting

I built a basic frame in wood and mounted a lamp on top to create a shadow box for a still life. The first photo is with the lamp on with a yellow bulb. In the second photo, my studio light is on and floods the box with too much light. I can’t quite get things set up so that I can use the first photo but still have enough light to paint. My studio is just too small. Lining the walls with black fabric should help.

Warmup.

This linear style is very different from everything I’ve been doing in this class. It’s more similar to comic inking.
