Retrospective

I applied to the advanced environment portfolio class at Brainstorm (PD ENV) but found out this week that I wasn’t accepted. I half suspected this possibility and I thought I was prepared to be rejected, but it was a real psychological blow. It kind of broke my ability to draw for a day. Every line I put down looked horrible. After that, I my motivation was renewed to work harder so that I get into the class next time. I have about 3 months until the next enrollment date comes around. I looked at some portfolios of people who have taken that class and many of them have 4 year art degrees on top of Brainstorm classes. Several have around 7 years of experience. I’m sitting at 2 years and 9 months. Maybe I’ve been completely unrealistic with how long it’s going to take to get a job.

Log

Work

ENT 1

This didn’t capture what I was imagining so I was disappointed with it. It looks fine, but I really wanted to show interesting construction methods of a castle built in the trees. It was too difficult. Also, I lost faith in the design. The more questions I asked myself about it, the more it seemed like a stupid idea.

I polished these a little more from last week, but didn’t change too much.

WB: SDVGD

I like the changes to the roof I made this week. I think it looks much better than last week’s version. I was hoping to finish this up, but there was quite a lot of feedback from the instructor so I need to spend another week on revisions.

WB 2

I thought I liked the third shot but once I finished it and compared it to the other two I noticed the contrast was too low. Sadly I didn’t have time to fix it. The instructor pointed it out as well.
