Resources

Marshall Vandruff’s perspective lectures

There are 12 lectures total (available for $12 here) so I’ll aim to watch three per week. There is an accompanying video with assignments here. My goal is to spend 45 minutes per day with the lectures and assignments.

Lesson 4 from drawabox.com

I’ve recently completed lessons 0–3 and the 250 box challenge, so I’m starting with lesson 4. I will spend an hour a day reading the material and doing the exercises. If I finish lesson 4 I will move on to lesson 5. I hope to finish more than just lesson 4, but rather than setting a goal to finish a certain number of lessons I’m setting a daily hourly goal.

Perspective Drawing Handbook by Joseph D’Amelio

This is the beginning perspective book recommended by Marshall Vandruff. Perspective Made Easy by Earnest Norling is another option, but I’ve already worked through that book. I aim to spend 45 minutes a day reading and doing exercises.

Art Parent

I’m choosing John Buscema again because I’m interested in using perspective to draw medieval castles and villages, and The Savage Sword of Conan is full of that stuff. I will use extra time on the weekends to first copy some of Buscema’s castles and cities, and then invent some of my own using the lessons I learned during the week.

Challenges

This month I’m doing the 250 cylinder challenge from drawabox.com. 9 cylinders per day should put me at 250 in 4 weeks.

Inspiration

I’m going to read The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. It’s full of exercises to tap into more creative potential.
