Head Drawing I Unit Plan

Resources

The primary video resource will be the Watts Atelier Head Drawing I course. Since I’m trying to keep study under three hours a week I’m only going to focus on one video resource. The book I’ve chosen is Drawing the Head and Hands by Andrew Loomis. The head is dealt with in the first 85 pages.

Art Parent

I decided not to pick an art parent for this unit because I want to focus on generic head construction before getting into stylized heads. Plus I can’t think of anyone who does a lot of especially interesting heads. Maybe someone will come to mind.

Challenges

Ahmed Aldoori’s 100 head challenge. I’ll do 25 heads a week, which is 3–4 per day.

Inspiration

I’m still reading Harold Speed’s The Practice and Science of Drawing.
