There are several resources on this topic, and I assume that most of them contain similar information. I’ll try to skim them all and then choose my favorite to go deeper into.

Retrospective

This week closes out my term on Bridgman. The good news is that I made it all the way through the torso, arms, and legs sections. The bad news is that I only copied from the book and didn’t do any drawings from memory. I will probably do another Bridgman term soon where I do all the drawings again from memory.

I tried something different this week and entered a contest at proko.com. The challenge was…

Retrospective

This was another slightly reduced week, but I was able to finish drawing all the arms in the Bridgman book. I didn’t draw every single arm (some were just too sloppy to glean any information from) but I drew all the pictures I considered worth drawing. Next week I’ll move on to legs. …

Retrospective

I took a bit of a break this week. I still drew every day, and still hit 20 hours, which I’m happy with for an “off” week. Doing Bridgman drawings over and over gets a bit repetitive. Maybe I should spread Bridgman out over a longer time instead of trying to do it for a month straight. …

Retrospective

I enjoyed drawing from the Bridgman book this week. The “Watts on Bridgman” book was absolutely essential. His cleaned up versions helped me understand Bridgman’s messy drawings. My longer, finished drawings from the week are all based on the Watts book, and the sketches are based on the Bridgman book.

Retrospective

This week I focused on rendering (mostly hatching and crosshatching) and finished drawings. Comic rendering techniques seem like they should be easy to do, but it is tricky to make it look good. Many of my attempts resulted in messy lines.

I’ve been looking forward to this unit for over a year now. I’ve tried to draw from Bridgman’s books in the past, but trying to understand them without any foundational anatomy knowledge was like trying to navigate a sprawling city without a map. Now that I have learned the basics of anatomy, I’m eager to see what I can learn from Bridgman.

Retrospective

I was out of town for the first couple days of the week, so I didn’t quite hit my goal of 34 hours. I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress in gesture drawing. It’s a lot more common to get quick drawings that I like than it was back in Figure Drawing I. I enjoyed practicing the finishes this week too. …

Retrospective

This week was a bit reduced because I was out of town for a few days and didn’t get the chance to do much drawing. I still have my streak going of drawing every day for 14 months straight. I really enjoyed the mannequinization exercises this week. I wish I had time to do more, but I could only get a few done per evening…

Retrospective

It was fun to draw so many comic figures this week. It’s very difficult to make a quick gesture drawing look good, but I compared some drawings from a year ago and I’ve definitely improved. I have a lot of trouble with foreshortening, but I will gain more practice with that next week when I start focusing more on structure. This week I…
